My thesis examines the relationship between parental cognitive and emotional empathy and the child’s empathy as mediated by a story telling task. This task examines the parent’s use of emotional language and his/her attitudes towards positive and negative emotions. My thesis is part of a larger study which compares empathy among 2-5 year old children from normative families with children at risk.
